Bush statement - no link between Iraq and the 9/11 attacks -relegated to page 5 of Oakland Tribune

You may have missed it. Well, maybe it isn't that important. Still, Bush did justify the illegal invasion of a country!! with his claim that Saddam Hussein was linked to the 9/11 attacks. I kind of think that his reversal is big news. Not to mention additional support for his impeachment.

Because now the President-Select says, "We've no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with September the 11th." The article on this is on PAGE 5 of the Oakland Tribune. The online version doesn't mention the statement on it's "breaking news" front page section.

I'm pretty sure that Bush's initial claims that Saddam Hussein WAS behind the attacks were given much more prominence.

Just to see whether this approach was specific to the Oakland Tribune, I checked the online editions of several other newspapers.

The online version of the SF Chronicle doesn't mention this news. It headlines the Giants big win. That's understandable of course, baseball being our national sport and all. it also features an article on Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid for governor.

The online edition of the LA Times has a link to an article with this title: "Bush: No Proof Ties Iraq to 9/11". Thank you, LA Times!

I thought that perhaps this burying of Bush's reversal was a Bay Area phenomenon.

But nope!

No such link exists on the New York Times front page. The national news headline there is "Bush Says Pelestinians Need a New Leader". Interesting how our "newspaper of record" handled this!

I'll be checking Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) to see if they have any discussion of the press response to Bush's turnaround.

For a history of another Bush lie, check out the new underground GI newspaper Traveling Soldier.
